Twin Center: Towering concrete in Casablanca
With its two towers rising 110 meters above the ground, the Twin Center has become a modern landmark for Casablanca, Morocco. The building occupies 13,500 square meters of land and features offices, a shopping center, a hotel, residential units, an exhibition space, restaurants and bars, and three basement car parks. LafargeHolcim provided its concrete solutions for the skyscrapers.
52,000 cubic meters of ready-mix concrete
The building’s shell is made entirely of concrete. According to Mohammed Azami, an engineer with the building consortium STGM, the structures required the largest amount of ready-mix concrete ever: a total of 52,000 cubic meters.
The concrete facade is coated in a special light-colored lacquer to match Casablanca's cityscape. In addition, a special building technique was used to support the foundations, which are set in water reaching 10 meters in depth.
We wanted to build a landmark for this area of the city, and we wanted an optical link to the nearby mosque with its 200-meter minaret. Traditional Moorish architecture was our inspiration for the towers, which constitute the building's nucleus.
LafargeHolcim has the necessary experience and can be relied on to rise to the challenge of large orders.
