#YearinReview Concrete may be the world’s most common building material, but in countries like Malawi, it’s bricks, fired in traditional clamp kilns. Malawians burn around 850,000 tons of fuelwood per year in the process of firing bricks. At this rate the entire country will be deforested in a generation and millions of tons of CO2 will be emitted into the atmosphere. There is a solution, and we call it Durabric. #LafargeHolcim #buildingmaterials #building #construction #buildingsolutions #SustainableConstruction #sustainablebuilding #homeownershipgoals #affordablehousing #bricks #brickwork #builders #builder #homebuilder #constructionsite #constructionworker #EnvironmentalEngineering #TeamWork #GoTeam #Building #BuildingMarterials #deforestation #enviornment #firebricks #co2emissions #socialimpact #ngo #malawi #yearinphotos

#YearinReview CityLife is one of the most important urban redevelopment projects in Europe. The project presents a comprehensive vision for the future of urban life. Three iconic business towers and a shopping district live together with the biggest pedestrian area and the second-largest park in the city - all served by the new M5 metro line. Two of the three towers, the brand new shopping district and the new metro line have all been built with LafargeHolcim products by Holcim Italy. #LafargeHolcim #buildingmaterials #building #construction #buildingsolutions #infrastructure #urbanplanning #Innovation #Innovative #TeamWork #CityLife #UrbanArchitecture #UrbanLiving #Skyscraper #Tower #Concrete #Building #BuildingMarterials #Architecture #Concrete #Cement #zahahadidarchitects #StudioLeibskind #city #citylifemilano #milano #readymix #citylife #yearinphotos

#YearinReview With a built area of 400,000 m² and more than 23,000 m² of #Ductal® facades, our materials help bring an architectural masterpiece to life: Africa’s largest mosque, Great Mosque of Algeria. The mosque combines modernity and authentic design, and its successful execution has depended on high-quality materials -- especially the facades. Ductal® was chosen for the facades around the minaret, the roofing of the dome of the prayer hall, the inner courtyard and the covering of the other buildings. The minaret facades employ an element of traditional Arabic architecture called mashrabiya that has been used since the Middle Ages. Mashrabiya involves an intricate latticework, and its motif both respects Islamic traditions and lends a unique identity to the mosque. These complex patterns require a delicate touch in both design and manufacturing: the mashrabiya could weigh no more than 65 kg/m². Thanks to Ductal®’s exceptional characteristics, it was possible to design very thin panels without passive reinforcement that also met the artist's expectations. #LafargeHolcim #cement #concrete #aggregates #buildingmaterials #building #construction #buildingsolutions #buildings #mosque #minaret #ductal #facades #facadesofbuildings #religiousbuilding #architecture #beautifulbuilding #yearinphotos

#YearinReview April 🇰🇪 From its vast national parks to the quickly growing cities and ports, Kenya is a country of contrasts. Supporting the country’s development, as well as that of the region as a whole, requires innovative, sustainable building solutions that benefit people and the environment equally. Nairobi is the only capital city with a national park inside its city limits. Within walking distance of the busy downtown, on an area of over one-hundred square kilometers, a diverse population of lions, impala, giraffes and many other iconic African animals is just nearby. Many more people will soon have a chance to glimpse the park fauna from a distance that is safe for both humans and animals -- atop the recently finished super-bridge, which is part of the first phase of Africa’s largest infrastructure project, the Standard Gauge Rail (SGR) project. #LafargeHolcim #cement #concrete #aggregates #buildingmaterials #building #construction #rail #rails #railway #railways #commuting #infrastructure #bridge #bridges #trains #trainpassenger #traincommute #buildingsolutions #yearinphotos

LafargeHolcim and Freyssinet present Ductal Inside, the innovative and cost-effective UHPC shotcrete solution. The first applications relate to reinforcement of under roads and motorways. This solution does not reduce the gauge of the structure, increases strength and durability, and preserves hydraulic and ecological connectivity. The application of Ductal Inside is 3 times faster compared to dry shotcrete.

Like ports on Mediterranean islands, Athinios is small and struggling to cope with the heavy traffic of Santorini’s thriving tourist industry. The rebuilding project, awarded to construction company Eretvo S.A., must therefore be carried out at different stages to ensure the facility can be operational at all times. To ensure minimal disruption, submerged caisson technology is being used for the new quay, using ready-mix concrete provided by our Greek subsidiary Heracles.
