The Pollinators Pavillion creates a habitat for solitary bees 🐝🐝🐝 who account for 70% of global non-agricultural pollination. It’s a wooden structure supporting 300 cast concrete panels, where 5,000 solitary bees can make their home in nesting tubes in the panels. The varied positions and orientations of panels allow the testing of diverse living conditions for solitary bees to optimize future manmade habitats, previously a little-researched area. The project was awarded third place at the New York City Media Lab Tech Expo of 2018. The panel system was achieved through partnership in material research with our @ductaluhpc team. #bees #ductal #pollination #sustainabledevelopment Livingston, NY

By 2021, Delhi’s metro network 🚇 will be bigger than the London Underground. Cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, to name just a few, are extensively upgrading their urban infrastructure. Metro systems can not only decongest cities, but they can clean them up, too. In Delhi, there are around 580,000 less vehicles on the roads thanks to the metro — meaning around 855,000 tons of pollutants are kept out of the air. For many, a journey by metro also means more comfort: “It’s better for the city than road transport because there’s no issue of traffic or pollution. I don’t have the troubles of the road, and can be in an environment that is air-conditioned and clean,” says Toussef, a resident of one of Delhi’s many sub-cities. #acc #ambujacement #subway #newdelhisubway

High-demand infrastructure projects require high-performance concrete. In India LafargeHolcim’s subsidiary Ambuja Cement (@ambuja_cement_official) partnered with Alcon Group Goa to develop a cement with micro-fine particles for just such projects. Called Alccofine, these particles give it great durability, as well as a host of other properties such as smoother finishes, quicker setting times and resistance to pollutants that can be a critical support for completing large-scale infrastructure projects on time and up to standard. Alccofine can even be applied in ‘shotcrete’ form, meaning construction crews can pump it through a hose and spray it onto any surface; even directly upwards. #acc #ambujacement #Alccofine #subway #newdelhisubway
