When you have a stroll in the neighborhood of the Budin childcare center, at the heart of the 18th district of Paris, the first thing you notice is the familiar sound of children playing during recess. When approaching closer, it is the unique style of the building that strikes you: designed by architects Emmanuel Combarel and Dominique Marrec, the Budin nursery is topped by a roof garden and dressed in a white concrete undulating facade pierced with asymmetric openings that give the place a mischievous look.
With Ductal®, aesthetics rhymes with energy efficiency
To draw this facade, a true curvy frame, the architects focused on prefabricated panels made with LafargeHolcim's ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) Ductal®. Our solution has enabled them to achieve optimal esthetic look, both in the shapes and color, for a building with a unique character!
But Ductal® is also the source of a major innovation in energy efficiency: thanks to our UHPC, the facade becomes a wall insulated from the outside which is at the same time durable, waterproof, insulating and thin.
As a result, the energy consumption of the Budin nursery does not exceed 50kWh / m² / year, and meets the requirements of the climate legislation of the city of Paris!
