Spanish antitrust authorities approved takeover of Cementos de Hispania S.A. by Holcim. Final contract has been signed.Following approval by Spain's antitrust authorities of the takeover of Cementos de Hispania S.A. (Hispania) - as announced by Holcim Ltd on March 14, 2003 - the final contract between Dyckerhoff AG and Holcim was signed on April 24, 2003. This allows Hispania to be integrated into the Holcim Group with retroactive effect from the beginning of 2003. Holcim (España), S.A. will assume management responsibility.
Holcim is to take over from German Dyckerhoff AG almost 100 percent of Hispania. The company runs the Yeles cement plant some 40 kilometers south of Madrid with an expandable annual capacity of 0.9 million tonnes of cement. The acquisition also includes Hispania's subsidiary Preresa with its well positioned mortar business. The company and its subsidiary employ a workforce of around 200.Holcim (España), S.A. now operates 6 cement plants with a combined annual capacity of 5.2 million tonnes and 9 terminals in major markets in the south, southeast, in the central region and in northwest of Spain.
