Holcim further focuses its senior management

 
  • Member of the Holcim Executive Committee Bernard Terver to become responsible for the Indian subcontinent and Africa Middle East; Onne van der Weijde to remain Area Manager for India and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd; Javier de Benito, Area Manager responsible for Africa Middle East and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd, to report to Bernard Terver.
  • Member of the Holcim Executive Committee Ian Thackwray to become responsible for East Asia, South East Asia, Oceania and Holcim Trading; Daniel Bach to become Area Manager for South East Asia and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd.
  • Alain Bourguignon to become Area Manager responsible for North America / UK and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd, reporting directly to Bernard Fontana.
  • All changes to become effective 1 January 2014.

 

Holcim today announces a series of changes in its most senior management that will further streamline and focus the leadership of the Group. At the same time, these moves strengthen the development of a new generation of leaders with broad commercial and technical experience as well as a sound track record in Occupational Health & Safety.

Member of the Holcim Executive Committee Bernard Terver will assume responsibility for Africa Middle East as well as the Indian subcontinent, i.e. India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. By combining these three countries into a regional cluster, the Group expects even better traction in this important region. With his many years of experience in the cement business and his strong track record in financial performance and also Occupational Health & Safety, Bernard Terver is ideally equipped to tackle the challenges we have in this region. Onne van der Weijde will remain Area Manager for India and will be instrumental in the foreseen restructuring of the two Indian operations ACC and Ambuja Cements. Javier de Benito will remain Area Manager for Africa Middle East, reporting directly to Bernard Terver.

Member of the Holcim Executive Committee Ian Thackwray will become responsible for East Asia, South East Asia, Oceania and Holcim Trading. With this move, important regional synergies in terms of increased collaboration can be reaped over time. Daniel Bach, currently CEO of Holcim Romania, will be appointed Area Manager for South East Asia and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd.

Alain Bourguignon, currently CEO of Aggregate Industries UK, is appointed Area Manager for North America / UK and member of senior management of Holcim Ltd. He will be reporting directly to the CEO of Holcim Ltd.

The corporate functions Investor Relations as well as Risk Management will newly report to CFO Thomas Aebischer.

All changes become effective 1 January 2014.

Member of the Holcim Executive Committee Paul Hugentobler, currently responsible for South Asia & ASEAN (excluding the Philippines), will be retiring upon reaching the statutory age limit in February 2014. He will act as an advisor to the CEO of Holcim Ltd starting January 1st, 2014. Until then, Paul Hugentobler, who has been instrumental in building up the Group’s position in Asia, will support a smooth transition phase into the new set up. The Board of Directors and the Holcim Executive Committee thank Paul Hugentobler for his many contributions to the success of the Group.

The area of responsibility of Holcim Executive Committee members Roland Köhler, in charge of Europe excluding the UK, and Andreas Leu, responsible for Latin America, will remain unchanged.

Alain Bourguignon
Alain Bourguignon joined Holcim in 1988 as Head of Controlling Holcim France. In 1996, he was appointed CFO of the same company and in 1999 of Holcim Belgium. In 2001, Alain Bourguignon was made General Manager of Holcim France-Benelux and in 2007 joined Holcim Spain - first as COO and subsequently as CEO. In 2010, he took over his current role. Alain Bourguignon holds a degree in Economics and Finance.

Daniel Bach
Daniel Bach joined Holcim as project engineer and manager in 1994. In 1998, he moved to Corporate Business Risk Management and in 2002 was made Technical Director for Holcim Indonesia. From 2004 – 2007, Daniel Bach acted as assistant to a member of the Holcim Executive Committee before being appointed Senior VP Manufacturing for Holcim Philippines. He took over his current role in 2011. Daniel Bach holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich.
