Holcim Executive Committee to become more international



Urs Bieri, member of the Executive Committee of Holcim Ltd since 1986, will be stepping down at the end of 2004 upon reaching retirement age.

The Board of Directors of Holcim Ltd has passed a resolution to appoint Tom Clough to the Executive Committee. Tom Clough is currently CEO of the Indonesian Group company. He will take over his new function on the date of the Annual General Meeting on May 14, 2004. He will assume responsibility in particular for companies in East Asia, including China, and also the Philippines, Oceania and South Africa.

Tom Clough was born and raised in the United Kingdom. He has a Bachelor of Mining Engineering from the University of Leeds. After his studies and three years working as a mining engineer in Africa, he embarked upon an international management career. In 1974, Tom Clough joined Imperial Chemical Industries ICI, initially holding marketing posts in the UK and Japan. His subsequent position took him to Indonesia, where he was in charge of strategic planning for the ICI Group in the ASEAN region. Tom Clough's final posting at ICI was as Sales and Quality Manager Europe with ICI Resins Group. In 1988, he moved to global minerals and specialty chemicals manufacturer ECC International, where he served as General Manager and Division Head for the Pacific Rim. In 1997, after some years as an independent consultant, he assumed management roles in the cement industry. He was appointed CEO of Holcim's Philippine Group company in 1998. Since Holcim's entry into the Indonesian market he has been CEO of Jakarta-based PT Semen Cibinong Tbk.
