Our CO2 emissions reduction

4 June 2019

LafargeHolcim cement is among the most carbon efficient in the world. Since 1990, we have reduced our net carbon emissions per tonne of cement by 25 percent - leading international cement companies with the highest reduction compared to our 1990 baseline.

Our current 2030 emissions reduction target of 40 percent compared to 1990 – translating to net emissions of around 460 kg CO2/tonne – exceeds the standard for a 2 degree scenario, consistent with the low-carbon technology roadmap defined for our sector by the International Energy Agency (IEA). With our target of 520 kg CO2/tonne by 2030, we remain the most ambitious company in our sector. We are still committed to reducing emission levels in line with a 2 degree scenario, as agreed at the COP21 world climate conference in Paris. Aligning with the Group Strategy 2022, we have now stated an interim 2022 target of 560 kg CO2/tonne, replacing our previous 2020 and 2025 targets.
