Solutions & Products support an iconic structure in Canada

9 May 2019

The Calgary Public Library is a recent addition to Canada’s third-largest city. The challenging location turned into a setting for neighborhood revitalization -- and our precast solutions were a big part of the answer.

The wall and stairs shown below are made with precast elements made by Lafarge Calgary. Each meets the precise specifications agreed to with the building’s design team. In the library plaza alone, 858 precast concrete landscape elements make up the terrace walls, precast concrete terrace seating, precast concrete stairs, planters, and benches.

The precast concrete terrace walls were formed with a relief for LED linear lighting, enhancing the landscape elements at night. Another 1,400 square meters of solid precast concrete architectural cladding were used mainly at the base of the building to provide resilience.
