Canada: energy efficiency and seismic performance

22 November 2011

Lafarge Precast in Calgary, Canada produced 700 Ductal® ultra-high performance concrete panels for "The Atrium", a new office building in Victoria, Canada.

White Ductal® premix was selected by architect Franc D'Ambrosio for its solar reflection properties, guaranteeing the building's energy efficiency.

By using passive energy savings and daylighting strategies, the 20,400m² building is targeted to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, awarded by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).

The advantages do not end there - the thin, lightweight, ductile panels reduced seismic impacts to the project, thereby simplifying compliance with Canadian earthquake regulations.

Finally, the highly moldable concrete facilitated the ability to produce an attractive architectural project with a customized, textured façade that harmoniously blends curves and straight lines.
