Lafarge announces the appointment of Pascal Casanova as Group Director of Research and Development. He replaces Denis Maître, who has been appointed as Managing Director of Lafarge's Aggregates & Concrete business in France.
Pascal Casanova, who is 40, is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées. He wrote his doctoral thesis on concrete while at the Ponts et Chaussées Central Laboratory.
He started his career with a public works company specialized in civil engineering, where he was in charge of supervising French bridge projects.
He joined Lafarge in 1999 as Technical director, where he worked on Ductal®, the ultra-high performance concrete, handling the transition from the research phase to the industrialisation phase.
In 2002, he was appointed as Head of R&D for Lafarge's Roofing business, managing several technological breakthrough projects.
From 2005, he was Managing Director of Lafarge Roofing Components, which is headquartered in Germany.
Pascal Casanova will be based at the Lafarge Research Center in L'Isle d'Abeau, near Lyons, which is the world's leading building materials research facility, with more than 200 researchers of different nationalities.
He will be in charge of pursuing the implementation of Lafarge's innovation strategy, identified by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bruno Lafont as a priority for the Group's development. In particular, he will be responsible for generating solutions for sustainable construction.
