Holcim Argentina and YPF Luz have signed an important agreement for the provision of renewable energy for their cement plants. Supply is scheduled to begin in early 2020, reaching 35% coverage of Holcim's electric energy demand by the end of the first half of that year. The energy contracted is an annual average of 142 GWh.

"This initiative is part of our sustainability strategy, particularly in one of the four areas in which we are working to achieve this, Climate and Energy. Replacing the non-renewable energy currently consumed by wind energy will help us reach our goal of reducing CO2 generation by 40% by 2030," Carlos Espina, CEO of Holcim Argentina.

The initiative by numbers
- 1.08 million tonnes of cement per year produced with renewable energy, equivalent to: 105,000 homes 3,000 km of two-lane roads
- 57,000 tonne reduction in CO2 emissions, equivalent to 60,000 flights from Córdoba to Buenos Aires.
